165 RJR Solids Blog Hop & Giveaway

4.18.2014

Happy Friday!  Today is my stop on the RJR Solids Blog Hop!
I'm excited to share these happy pillows I've been working on lately.
I chose to go with a pretty bold color scheme for these, using RJR Cotton Supreme Solids in Hot Pink (217), Rio (331), Tickled Pink (330), Emerald City (329), Putting Green (290), Tiffany Box (291), Pewter (351), Gale Force (282), Black (34) and Optical White (33).  I added in a few prints to give a little extra interest.
Accuquilt had recently sent me a few new dies to try out, which were perfect for this project!  For the triangle pillow, I used the Equilateral Triangle Die with my Accuquilt cutter to cut the triangle shapes.
I used the Clamshell Die to cut the shapes for the clamshell pillow, which saved me a ton of time!
I machine pieced the scallops and then hand appliqued them to the front of the pillow.
I did a bunch of wavy quilting on the clamshell pillow before adding on the top piece.  I used variegated Aurifil thread in 28wt which gave it a really cool texture.
I quilted the triangle pillow in diamond shapes.

I added in some hand quilting with Cosmo metallic gold floss to finish off the clamshell pillow.  I love how it turned out!
Overall I was really happy with the RJR Cotton Supreme Solids.  The hand of the fabric is really nice, somewhere in between Kona Cotton and Cotton Couture or Art Gallery.  Soft, but with a good weight to it, if that makes sense?
Jackson wanted to model with the pillows too!  He always seems to walk through the middle of my photoshoots.  At least this time he sat down!
Then he got tired :)
RJR is giving away a fat quarter bundle of the solids I used in this project!  To enter, simply leave a comment on this post!  I'll choose a winner on Tuesday, 4/22.  The giveaway is open to US and Canada only.  Please make sure to leave an email address so I can contact you!

Update:  This giveaway is now closed.  Congrats to our winner, patriciadavis!

Make sure to check out the rest of the blog hop on this facebook page!  Lots of pretty things being made with these solids.  You can find RJR Cotton Supreme Solids at Pink Castle Fabrics!
