12 last quilt of 2012.

Happy New Year everyone!  I wanted to share the last quilt I made in 2012... a Christmas present for my sister Dani.
I started and finished this quilt within a week, which was pretty fast considering it was the week of my birthday and Christmas!  My sister has been hinting that she wanted a quilt from me, and since she didn't really ask for anything specific for Christmas this year, I thought it was the perfect chance to make her one.  As soon as I saw Joel Dewberry's Notting Hill (available at Stash Fabrics and Pink Castle Fabrics), I knew it was the perfect starting point for her quilt!  She loves plaids, florals, and bright, yet sophisticated colors.  I added in some Cotton Couture solids and started sewing without a real plan in mind.  I stitched up a giant log cabin block and sashed it in some Essex yard-dyed linen in Flax, floating the block off center.  (Please excuse the not so great pictures, we had to take them at night because my sister was leaving early the next morning).
The back is made up primarily of Tartan in Aquamarine with a strip of Primrose in Magenta in the middle.
I quilted it using my wavy quilting technique, which took quite a while since this is a pretty big quilt, but it was pretty mindless!
It's bound in the same plaid in a different color, Tartan in Tangerine.
It's a pretty big throw size quilt, finishing off at about 68" x 76" or so.  I think she likes it :)
Looking forward to a lot more making in 2013!!

  3. A beautiful gift for your sister!!!

  4. Your sister is a lucky girl! I have 2 FQs in the magenta color way just waiting for the right pattern. :D Kona Oyster is a very close match for the background of the prints.
