I put my herringbone string blocks to use this weekend, making a fabric bucket for my Make Mine Modern Swap partner!
I added a linen base and lining with some Peltex inside to help it hold its shape. I forgot how difficult it is to fit the corners through my machine! But it turned out okay and now I kind of want to make one for myself.
In other news, I finally replaced my 3 year old Blackberry Pearl this weekend. It was time for a new phone.
Now I just need to find a prettier case for it. I'm leaning towards this one at the moment.

a wedding album. finally!
3.11.2011
It took a year and a half to want to look at our wedding pictures long enough to make an album, but it's finally finished.
The album was printed through Blurb. I'm not completely impressed with the print quality, but it was reasonably priced at 160 pages, and gives us a way to look at a ton of our wedding pictures all in one place. I am very happy to be finished with this project!

Finally getting back to these herringbone string blocks!
Will it ever stop snowing? I am dying for spring.

the bathroom: before and after.
3.08.2011
Guess what friends! The bathroom is finally finished. To be honest, it's been finished for awhile, I just had to find a few small touches before I could call it complete.
Here's what it looked like before. Hello 1990's.
The rug and Marrimekko towels (discontinued) are from Crate & Barrel. The Kohler toilet is from Home Depot.
The towel rod and toilet paper holder are from Lowes. The garbage can is from Crate & Barrel. After looking at this picture, we need to replace the door knob!
Here's what it looked like before. Hello 1990's.
They had a border up on the ceiling, and the walls were a taupe color.
The fixtures were really dated, and the toilet was always running. And don't even get me started on that disgusting rusty heating vent.
The holes above the mirror weren't there when we moved in. We had to drill those to find the live wire that was hanging out behind the wall with no cap on it.
We removed all of the fixtures, cut (and then repaired) a giant hole in the wall to get to the wire and make the wall straight again (it was bowed out where the pipes were for the faucet), and added tile where the old vanity was (since the new cabinet hangs on the wall up off the floor). Then we painted (Behr paint, color matched to Martha Stewart Heavy Goose) and installed the new toilet, vanity cabinet, mirror, lighting/exhaust fan, and towel bar. We also replaced all of the outlet covers, the floor vent, and trim and painted the door. The rug and Marrimekko towels (discontinued) are from Crate & Barrel. The Kohler toilet is from Home Depot.

The vanity set is this one from CSN Stores. It came with the cabinet, faucet, sink, and mirror. The bottom drawer pulls open for storage.
I was having a hard time finding artwork I liked for this room so I framed some fabric from Patricia Bravo's Modern Affair.
I picked up some pretty faux ranunculus at Meijer this weekend. They were just what I needed to brighten up the corner.
So what do you think of our new bathroom? I love it!

happy weekend.

I'm off to Grand Rapids for a few days for some shopping and girl time with my family. I can't wait to step foot in an actual mall. It's been a few months.
Hope you all have a nice weekend!

bundled up: neon.
3.03.2011
I thought it might be fun to start a new series where I put together a bundle of fabrics to share with you! I like to put together fabric combinations even if I may not have a specific project in mind for them. This latest bundle came to me one day while I was picking fabrics for my Single Girl blocks.
It looks kind of neon doesn't it? It reminds me when I was a kid, sitting in my bedroom surrounded by piles of neon Hot Loops! Does anyone else remember those?
Anyway, back to the bundle. Let's see which fabrics are included here.
That's a lot of different fabrics! Here they are again all together.
What would you make from this bundle? I'm thinking a simple patchwork quilt or duvet cover for a teenage girl would be perfect! I just happen to have a sister that fits in that category, I wonder if she could use a new blanket for her bed...
